The K2 is the broadband element of a WST® line source with variable curvature and adjustable horizontal directivity.
The K2 loudspeaker is based on an active 3-way architecture. It comprises 4 sections: 2 LF and 1 MF at the nominal impedance of 8 ohms, and 1 HF at the nominal impedance of 16 ohms. A K2 loudspeaker has two 12'' loudspeakers and four 6.5'' drivers, all in neodymium and mounted in direct radiation in a bass-reflex enclosure. It also has two neodymium drivers with a 3'' diaphragm compression chamber coupled to DOSC® waveguides and adjustable directivity fins. The transducers are implemented in a K-configuration. For optimum mechanical and acoustic properties, the carpentry is made of premium Baltic birch plywood, combined with aluminum for the side panels. A four-point hooking system is integrated into the carpentry.
The K2 nominally operates in the 35 Hz - 20 kHz frequency band. The frequency response of the system can be extended to 30 Hz with the K1-SB bass reinforcement or 25 Hz with the SB28 sub-bass. On the horizontal plane, the directivity is adjustable from 300 Hz, with four possible settings, either symmetrical (70° or 10 °) or asymmetrical (90° in 35°/55° or 55°/35°).
The K2 rigging system allows the enclosures to be assembled vertically with various inter-element angles ( 10 ° maximum), thus constituting a line with variable curvature. The combination of a coplanar geometry and the DOSC® waveguide, effective in the HF region, ensures perfect acoustic coupling between the elements of a line. The criteria of the WST® (Wavefront Sculpture Technology) are respected, so that such an assembly can be qualified as a real line source. Any WST® line source produces smooth frequency response and sidelobe-free coverage over the entire frequency range.
The K2 is controlled and amplified by the LA4X or LA8 controller. These provide linearization, protection and optimization of the electro-acoustic system.
The L-ACOUSTICS ® K1 system has achieved international recognition, becoming the first choice of engineers for the most prestigious stadium tours and outdoor festivals. Its sound performance, its integration into a complete system offer and its recurring presence on technical data sheets are considered benchmarks in the audio industry. K2 now offers all of this in a small and flexible format. The K2 system is suitable for both fixed installations and the rental market, for venues ranging from theaters to stadiums.
The main elements of the system are:
  • K2, broadband element, adjustable horizontal directivity, operating from 35 Hz to 20 kHz
  • K1-SB, low-frequency element, boosting the contour up to 30 Hz or the range up to 35 Hz
  • SB28, low-frequency element, extending bandwidth down to 25 Hz
  • LA4X - LA8, amplified controllers, or LA-RAK, touring rack equipped with 3 LA8 amplified controllers
A quad-amplified 3-way architecture, high-performance electro-acoustic components and an unbeatable weight/ SPL ratio are some of the features that ensure the K2 is exceptionally efficient for many applications. Deployment on site is easily and quickly achieved, thanks to an extremely ergonomic captive hanging system.
A K2 line source takes advantage of the characteristics specific to WST® line sources with variable curvature. Inter-element angles can be set with unparalleled precision, up to a generous 10 °, allowing optimization of vertical coverage with even distribution of SPL across the audience. Horizontally, the K2's coverage can be adjusted to precisely match an audience sector or room geometry. Four settings are possible: two symmetrical (70° or 10 °) and two asymmetrical (90° in 35°/55° or 55°/35°).
The wideband response of the K2 loudspeaker allows it to be deployed as a stand-alone line source. For applications requiring a reinforced impact, or a long distance bass range, K2 can be assembled with the K1-SB sub-bass. When combined with the SB28 subwoofer, the K2 system can meet the most demanding applications in terms of infrasonic reproduction. Before installation, any system configuration can be modeled acoustically and mechanically in the 3D simulation software SOUNDVISION.
On tour, K2 can be paired with the LA-RAK, a universal platform that facilitates cross-hiring. The LA-RAK contains three amplified controllers and provides power, audio and network distribution. For high-end installations, K2 can also be controlled by the LA4X controller. The latter allows discretized DSP processing for each of the sections and headroom before maximum limiting, thus producing the best possible sonic performance.
Thanks to the dedicated factory presets, LA8 or LAX drive the loudspeakers with precision. All L-ACOUSTICS ® amplified drivers include L-DRIVE, a circuit that protects the transducers against excessive temperatures and excursions.
The L-NET protocol, based on Ethernet, allows the connection of up to 253 amplified controllers. LA NET WORK MANAGER software allows remote monitoring and control of connected units, via a simple and intuitive graphical interface, and includes Array Morphing EQ. This exclusive tool allows the engineer to quickly adjust the tonal balance of the system, with the aim of achieving a reference response curve or ensuring the consistency of the sonic signature.
